Research in the Kaeberlein Lab focuses on the basic biology aging. Using C. elegans as a model organism, we investigate the molecular mechanisms of dietary restriction. Dietary restriction has been shown to modulate the rate of aging in many model organisms. Dietary restricted worms live longer than their ad libitum fed counterparts. It is the goal of the Kaberlein lab's research to better understand the pathways that are involved in this lifespan extension. Lara Shamieh's research specifically focuses on the depletion and modulation of ubiquitin levels in dietary restricted worms. She is currently investigating the mechanism by which this depletion occurs and its functional consequences related to aging.
